The Pendu Soundart Soundroom hosts MP3 files by musicians, noisemakers, and poets whose works could loosely be termed 'sound art'. Now what exactly is sound art, you may ask? To be truthful, there really is no definition. Arguments would ensue that are unnecessary if we were to open that can of worms here. As a curator, I choose works from artists that fall inside or just outside of the following categories. 1.) pieces that are conceptual in nature, 2.) spontaneous compositions, usually created with non-musical instruments, 3.) work that is not meant to be purchased in a store, but could be, 4.) poetry-readings, sound poems, poetics, 5.) inter-disciplinary works that involve making objects that make sounds. and 6.) sound manipulations, intertextual sound collages, tape manipulations, etc. I don't believe in a strict criteria, sometimes you just know it when you hear it. I hope you enjoy these handpicked selections. Submissions are welcome, send an email to info(at)pendu.org for info. Cheers!
